
Gaga met performer Lady Starlight during this time and, following a performance at Lollapalooza Festival in 2007 Gaga was signed by Vince Herbert to Streamline Records which is an imprint owned by Interscope Records. Gaga signed a music publishing agreement with Sony/ATV after she was an apprentice writer for Famous Music Publishing. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. Gaga's debut album in 2008 The Fame received mediocre radio play. The singer was on tour Europe and the US in support of the album. But, it was not until the 2009 hit "Just Dance" that the mainstream music scene truly started to flourish. Gaga was suffering from a labral tear in her right leg. she secretly nursed for several weeks to ensure she was able to continue the tour. After a show in Toronto left her unable to walk and suffering from severe pain the singer was taken to a hospital for surgery, and the tour was canceled.
